Overview

My first complete adventure map is Wight of Castle Black. It is a short horror themed adventure map featuring a densely packed and interconnected castle. Inspired by the level design of the souls games, I made a vertical environment full of short cuts, while maintaining a clear linear path. However, the map runs into some polish problems, such as some frustrating parkour challenges.

My second complete adventure map is Indiana Jims and the Lost Idol - and Indiana Jones spoof. This level I allowed myself to use more space, creating a more structured four-part dungeon, similar to Zelda dungeons. However, inspired by metriodvanias, I used some of the player's abilities and usable items as "keys". For example, in a few parts the player can launch rockets from their crossbow "gun" to blow up sections of the wall. This allows for a very dramatic puzzle key, while being very evocative of the reckless archeologist the map was inspired by.

My third map is a large form map I am still working on. This one features several distinct interconnected levels in one cohesive world. This map is strongly inspired by dark souls and metriodvania level design. In making my adventure maps, I realized that there were many features in Minecraft that could be used as metriodvania style ability keys. Water breathing may be required to get through a water section, jump height potions to reach a tall ledge, a special axe flagged to chop down roots, and elytra to glide across treacherous chasms, and much more... So far my map uses a crossbow, boots of soul speed, an axe that can break roots, and a goat horn as keys, though I am planning on adding some water movement related ability keys.
